Welcome to Suzanne's blog!

Antioxidents are key to slowing down premature ageing which is why NYR formulate with plants containing natural Antioxidents.
Their action is to protect the skin from free radical damage by donating electrons, therefore eliminating the need for a free fadical cell to steal one from a healthy cell and causing ageing of the skin.

  3. Hi Suzanne and thanks so much for all you do!!
What product might be recommended for psoriasis, specifically around the waistline?

When in doubt use the Hero??

  4. It was great to learn so much from you on the Webinar. I loved the explaination of how to use the body products by working towards the heart. So my question is, when doing a faccial why do we apply the product upward?

  8. Hello Suzanne,
I was just curious as to what your official title with NYR is aside from "Product Guru"? And, what shop do you work in, in case I get back to London again this year. It's a pleasure to meet you here for now though; looking forward to checking in again to see what you write. Cheers!

  9. Hi everyone!
One of my customers on my Myspace tried to link to this blog from Myspace, using the Blogspot-provided-link that I placed from here to go on my Myspace; and, it appears that Myspace's SPAM FILTERS won't let it pass for her to access it from Myspace!
I just set up a blog too. I hope you all will do the same so we can inter-connect as well in here.

  10. Hi guys,
I am looking forward to sharing more training information with you in regular monthly Webinars.

For Psoriasis I recommend using the Baby products along with taking Organic Beauty Oil to increase the Essential Fatty Acids which are key for skin health.

During a facial upward strokes increase circulation and lift and tone facial muscles.

For Baby eczema use the Baby Bath as it contains oats which are a source of Beta Glucan to soften and help the healing process. Follow with the Pure Baby oil to nourish and soften.

My official title is Head of Training which involves training all NYR staff in the UK, Japan, Dubai and the US on product, customer service and customer experiences such as mini facials and skin consultations. I am based in our Covent Garden offices and Training facilities.

I look forward to hearing from you all soon and I shall check your blogs each week and reply each Friday.

The subject for the week is Wild Rose Beauty Balm. Lets share stories and tips.

  11. HI and thanks for all you do!!

I was on a ski trip last week and a girlfriend showed me the tops of her feet that were covered in a rash that matches the shape of her spinning shoes. She tried WRBB on it the last two days of the trip and said she felt immediate relief from the itching. Her products will arrive in a couple of weeks so I am anxious to see how she does with extended use of WRBB.

  12. I love your job and title! How wonderful that is--and Covent Garden is just so marrrvelous. I was very fortunate and got to visit that shop one day!! I have been trying to get funding to start esthetician licensing classes here in California, hoping it will not be too difficult to transfer it over to the UK---OK..so, RE: WRBB: My sister, 2½ yrs. older, just purchased WRBB thinking it would make her brown spots fade--WILL IT? I love it's other ways, too numerous to count here~!; but, is it good to suggest to customers that it will fade brown/age spots?

  13. I know the wild rose beauty balm as hailed as a wonder all. I have never really felt that way until this past week. I burned my finger tips and I immediately put the wild rose beauty balm on it. As my fingers still tingled I thought maybe it was not the best decision to do this because of the oils I just put on my now throbbing fingers. Well, the throbbing stopped after a few minutes and I forgot all about the pain, so I would use my fingers, wiping the wild rose beauty balm off of the fingers and the throbbing would start again. So I kept putting the product on and by evening my fingers were great. No throbbing even without anything on them! And my fingers never blistered.

  14. Hi Suzanne, I have a customer with VERY dry skin - she swims everyday. She tried the Orange Flower line and said it wasn't moisturizing enough so she exchanged it for the Frankincense line. She has been using the Frankincense (3 steps) and the orange flower oil 2X a day for over a month and said it's not working, that her skin is still very dry. What would you suggest?

Also, what do you reccommend for people with Rosacia?

  16. WHILE WE'RE WAITING FOR SUZANNE TO COME BACK, IF ANYBODY'S INTERESTED.......I found a very nice Q&A interview with Romy Fraser over on my BLOGGER BLOG: http://nepenthe4skin.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

  17. Sorry for the delay in replying, I have had some annual leave and then training our new staff.
In reply to Nepentheans question on pigmentation, the Rosehip in the Balm is fantastic for helping with pigmentation, however she must use a sun block after or stay away from the sun as it will trigger more.

    Jen,
The chlorine is very drying and as she already has dry skin I would suggest applying the WRBB before swimming and washing her face after with Orange Flower facial wash. She could also use WRBB as a night treatment and I suggest a facial polish 2x a week.

    Michelle,
Our skin is naturally acidic yet our eyes are alkaline so traditional baby products which don't sting the eyes can dry the skin where as ours maintain the skins natural balance. It is a tricky one but can you buy a hair wash ring in the US. It pops around the baby's hairline to prevent shampoo running into the eyes.

  18. Do you have a mask recommendation for people with real sensitive skin? Also, a customer wanted to know why our Rose Water has alcohol as its second ingredient.

  19. Hi Susan, thanks for helping us this way. I had someone who is concerned that items are Hypoallergenic, ask if all of our products were derma-tested, clinically proven and tested? If so, by who? I wanted to say “of course”, but thought I better ask just to make sure.

Another question asked, is our Lemon & Coriander deodorant safe for children? Thanks.

  20. Hi Susan, When we use a treatment, like the Frankincense Serum or Wild Rose Beauty Elixir, can that be place around the eye area? Also, I have had several people comment about the Frankincense Serum being "sticky" on the face. Do you know why it is sticky?

  21. I was wondering why the Palmarosa Facial wash received a 5? I didn't think any of our products had Sodium Lauryl Sulfate(SLS)in them.

  22. Could you please tell me the benefits of using melissa/lemon balm for our hand and nail products? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm in touch with the Breast Cancer Fund and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, and the reason why some of our ingredients are labeled "5" is because it is assumed we process our ingredients just like everyone else... If the person at NYR who is uploading our product information into the EWG database provides substantiation that the SD ALCOHOL we are using is phthalate-free, and our COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE is not contaminated, etc. etc., EWG will change our score to reflect the safety of our products.

  24. QUESTIONS FOR SUZANNE:

    1. What is the active ingredient within frankincense that promotes the "anti-aging" qualities? What is actually occurring within the skin?

    2. For those who are currently using the Frankincense Serum, why would they "switch" to the Wild Rose Beauty Elixir? What stands out for one against the other?

  27. Suzanne,

I have super sensitive skin. Can you tell me what ingredient in the products would give me small hive like bumps? They always show up on my cheeks and they kind of itch. I've never known to be allergic to anything specific, I wonder if the products are so much better than anything my skin has ever had on it, it just doesn't know what to do?!! Could it be almond oil, is that a common reactionary ingredient?

  28. Thank you Suzanne for a wonderful Webinar today, very helpful.
I was wondering if the Men's facial wash could come in a plastic bottle instead of glass?
I know my own husband would like to keep it in the shower and it would make it easier for travel.

  29. Here are some answers to you recent questions.
Michelle, RE a mask for sensitive skin: I suggest sampling the White Tea mask and your customer to patch test first, leaving it on for 10 minutes and monitoring their skin over a 24hr period to assess for any reactions.
Rosewater: The alcohol content is no more than 1% and is there to disperse the Rose essential oil into the water.

Tammy, RE hypoallergenic etc: Before launch our products are thouroughly tested on around 100 volunteers for 4 weeks and we also do Dermatological patch tests
    by an independant testing house.
The test if a 96 hour patch test in 30 healthy male and female subjects, all with sensitive skin, to investigate whether the test product causes any skin irritation when compared against 2 standard controls.
The volunteers are given four applications under a ‘patch’ (a bit like a plaster), each left on for 23 hours, one after the other.
Any reactions, including erythema (redness) are noted and scored 1 hour after each patch removal by a clinical dermatologist.
RE Deodorant: I suggest the use of our deodorant from puberty onwards.

Michelle, RE eye area: I would only use specific eye treatments around the eye area as the formulas are designed to benefit all functions of this area. If you use product designed for the face too close to the eye it can cause puffiness.
RE Frankincense serum: If you find it sticky I suggest using less and massaging well onto cleansed skin. It will have an instant firming and toning sensation and this is normal and desired.
LaDonna, RE Palmarosa Face Wash: Firstly it doesn't contain SLS it is Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate not Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.
RE Cosmetics Database: We are presently looking into issues raised and thank you Susan for your response. I can assure you that all products are independantly safety assessed in accordance with EEC Cosmetics directive. The main worry with the ingredients highlighted by this website is actually a combined effect of the highlighted ingredients along with certain preservatives which we don't use. Our Formulation team are aware of this potential and have given assurance that this is not the case with our products. For your reference Nitrosamines are created in cosmetics when nitrates and various amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) are in favorable conditions to combine. Specifically, nitrosamines form when certain proteins, such as diethanolamine (DEA) or triethanolamine (TEA), are used in the same products as preservatives that can break down into nitrates. As these various compounds break down over time, they can recombine into nitrosamines.

Michelle, RE Melissa: This amazing oil has anti inflammatory and healing properties to assist with dry, cracked hands and cuticles.

Jules, There aren't any ingredients in our products known to cause reactions but anyone can react to anything. This means I can't identify anything specific for you. I would suggest allergy testing and trial and error. Only use one product at a time for 48 hrs each time. Try Wild Rose Beauty Balm too.

LaDonna, I know there are talks at the moment regarding plastic bottles in the US so I will keep you posted.

Have a great day everyone x

  30. Hi Suzanne,

Was wondering if/when there will be a NYR Organic sunscreen?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi Suzanne - thanks SO much for your answers, it's been very helpful.

I was also wondering about a sunscreen and have been asked if we will have an organic insect repellant?

    thanks,
    Jen

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi Guys,

NYR do produce sunscreens and an organic insect repellent however you will need to check with your Leader or Ambassadors to confirm if you stock it in the US as I know US standardization on SPF's varies from the UK.
I was also asked about where we stand on plastic ie does it still preserve the products and some people request more where as others prefer glass.
    PLASTICS USED BY NYR
PET / PETE: Blue Plastic Bottles & Baseline Bottles

PET or PETE does contain a phthalate type structure as its name suggests – PolyEthylene Teraphthalate, but this is within the polymer chain structure itself, and therefore IS the sponge itself, so there is no leaching of this polymer component.
We use PET as it has good barrier properties, is strong and easily recyclable. As an extra bonus the PETE blue bottles that we use are made from 100% post consumer recycled PETE.

PE: Blue Plastic Tubes, Baseline Jar
PE doesn’t need plasticizers, its physical properties are controlled by the polymer chain length and chain branching which produce HDPE (High density PE) or LLDPE (linear low density PE).

PP: Lids for Bottle and Jars
Pumps – PP (plus a lesser content of metal & PE)

PP to a lesser extent than PE can be engineered by chain length to give varying properties. It is used in many closure systems for its excellent resistance to fatigue, so again, no requirement for plasticizer.
We have plans to introduce more plastic bottles as requested by our friends in the US as the glass bottles of some products which contain water freeze in Alaska and the glass breaks. Any product with a high oil content will stay in glass and there will be no compromise on quality and preserving of our precious ingredients.

    Have a great day, Suzanne

  33. Has anyone used and smelled the Staflower Daily Moisturizer yet? I don't have any experience with Borgae to know what it smells like.
I just had one returned for being too emoliant and not smelling pleasant according to the customer.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've smelled the Starflower and would have to say it is neutral. Not unpleasant, not wow like our other products, but then it is supposed to be fragant free. I do find it to be very emollient. It has helped with my son's eczema on his cheeks. I've noticed a difference with his skin in a short amount of time.

  35. I am trying to get a little more information about our baby products. When did Neal's Yard Remedies first introduce the baby/mother's products? What makes some of the products safe for 3 months and older, but not for newborns? Is the baby lotion necessary if you use the baby soap and the baby's skin is fine? Would it be better to use a tear-free shampoo then risk getting soap in the baby's eyes? How regulated is the UK in terms of baby products compared to the USA? Any other insight/information would be appreciated. Thanks!

  36. Thanks Michele for the Starflower input. I will be trying the cleansing milk and essence later this week...

  37. Why are some of our toners a spray and others need a cotton pad to apply?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Will our make-up that is coming out be vegan?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi Guys,
Regarding Baby products, they have been around for many years and we have added more due to their popularity. Some of them contain a small amount of essential oils which is why we say they are for use over 6 mths. Baby lotion is optional as every baby is different and some do have dry skin so this is an option for mums to use a product which they can trust is safe and gentle. As I said previously a babys PH is different for their eyes and products which don't sting the eyes are possibly not the best for baby's skin so I think we should inform rather than dictate which products a new mum should use as we do with all our ranges.
The Waters which we know as toners are without a spray, I am not sure if the seperate atomisers are an item stocked in the US but I do find that toning with cotton wool is more effective. The Mists have a built in atomiser as they are more of a skin treatment which can be spritzed at any time of the day and even over make-up but they double up as a toner.
Colour will contain Beeswax in the pencils rather than synthetic waxes so the range won't be labeled as vegan. I am sure you will all fall in love with NYR Colour as I have.

  40. Hi Suzanne, I have an adult with acne and eczema her husband also has eczema on his body what would be the best product for the body?
    What would you recommend for
    Cleanser\
    Toner/ or mist
    Day Moisturizer
    Night Moisturizer
    Debra Hubers-Paradis CA-USA

    Mask
Thanks for the help with this

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hi Debra,

I would suggest Soothing Starflower range for sensitive skin on the face and to try Rose Facial oil in a patch test first but it's a great anti inflammatory. They should also be increasing their EFA's through diet.
The body products to try are the Baby Bath, Calendula & Oat Lotion or Pure Baby oil. All of these are gentle and rich in EFA's. The trick is to keep it simple and to try one product at a time building up a range.
